Does it look like a Chihuahua?

Claudia --- 8 years ago -

Dunno lol

Jezel --- 8 years ago -

Oh, lol.. cuz I saw two small black dogs on my lawn that same night. They made their way to the next street over, and I thought they were with this guy that was outside on his phone. But he went inside shortly after, and the dogs went on their way... hmm.. well I hope they find their dog.

Claudia --- 8 years ago -

I hope so too!

bianka --- 8 years ago -

i saw a dog that fits that description yesterday.i live on lea court.i saw it walking in the middle of our street.and my friend a couple of strrets saw that same dog in her yard lastnight.

This afternoon I was with a friend driving thru Valencia Loop and we saw a daschund black in color with brown. I went to get it but he ran from me. Then as I was coming back from the BX about an hour ago I saw another dog roaming on Valencia loop by Santa Fe, I think it was a schnauzer.

Claudia --- 8 years ago -

@ Iduna did your friend take the dog inside and call SF? Btw, what's up w/ all those dogs roaming the neighborhood?

bianka --- 8 years ago -

It's not my dog, I receive emails when there are lost dogs on base or Alamo.

Roberta --- 8 years ago -

I do too, it's part of the Home Again thing. There is a scruffy looking schnauzer dog that has been roaming around the neighborhood. About 30 min. ago Allen and I came home and it was relaxing in our carport in the sun. When I went to go get it, it ran away.

Paige --- 8 years ago -

Last night I saw 2 small dogs running down first street and ALMOST ran right onto White Sands BLVD. I tried to get them, but they ran away. So sad. The world is such a danger to our furry friends, but who REALLY made it that way? LOL. I am supposed to recieve those emails, but I never get them.

Katrina --- 8 years ago -

I know it's common for people to leave their pets behind when they PCS, sad but that's what happens. There were A LOT of stray cats when I first got here. Not really sure what happened. Haven't seen them around on base much anymore.

Claudia --- 8 years ago -

True true, I saw a bunch about 1-2 years ago :(

Barbara --- 8 years ago -

The homeless animals are euthanized. There are about 200 homeless pets destroyed each week in Alamogordo.

Claudia --- 8 years ago -

200?? OMG :(

Barbara --- 8 years ago -

Yep, too many people breeding dogs and cats (either intentionally or not) in the area.

Christine --- 8 years ago -

Well I have to say that part of the problem is how expensive it is too. I paid $115 for one cat. So, it adds up when you have more than one animal. Where I came from use to have an SPCA spay/neueter/shot days where the vets all volunteered on rotating schedules for one day a month. You paid just the cost of the medicine, shot, etc. It was cheap, like $45 for spay/neuter of dogs & less for cats. When we moved here, we checked but there was none.

We had that t00. P1us a pr0gram that w0u1d he1p th0se with0ut en0ugh m0ney t0 pay f0r it a11

The local Humane Society use to offer a free spay/neuter clinic each month. The organization still offers help but I don't know how much. It's expensive to own pets. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't have any.

Cathy --- 8 years ago -

Staley's Veterinary Medical Center on Indian Wells has a reduced cost shot day every Wednesdays from 2 to 5 pm. For dogs, they give distemper, parvo and rabies and for cats, they give distemper, leukemia and rabies. I took my two cats and it cost $43.00 to get each of them both of their shots and city license. They are associated with the animal shelter (they are the ones who took care of that terrier puppy who was attacked by the 3 teenagers). When I adopted my youngest cat, the spay fee I paid when I adopted her was $49.55 and I don't recall paying anything more (although I had to pay more because I had her declawed) when I took her in for the surgery. Just letting people know.

Christine --- 8 years ago -

The local society I believe gives either $10 or $20.

Barbara --- 8 years ago -

The Humane Society of Otero County use to offer 5 free spay/neuters each month. I guess they spent all the money they had in savings on something else.

Christine --- 8 years ago -

When I talked with the lady she said that she has tried to get vets to help out and didn't get a good response. With it being by donations they are only able to help everyone out a little. She was a sweet woman with a big heart.

Barbara --- 8 years ago -

The humane society use to do fundraisers and had money invested in CDs so that they made a little money to help out in a more efficient way.

Claudia --- 8 years ago -

It's expensive to own pets. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't have any. Exactly!

Christine --- 8 years ago -

Sometimes peoples situations change, ie job loss etc. So I don't think that applies to all people. I have seen people on here that are giving away their beloved pets because they can't afford it. So, we can't go around making blanket statements like that as it is very judgemental and critical. You don't know other peoples circumstances that may have caused them to not be able to afford to spay/neuter or even give their pets shot.

Claudia --- 8 years ago -

Just check HYS .. how many posts do you see on an almost weekly basis where people get rid of their dogs because they are e.g. pcs'ing .. You know, especially when you are military, that you are going to pcs sooner or later, why not save up money, why does it seem so much easier to just find them a new home instead of being committed and responsible?

Barbara --- 8 years ago -

So, if you CAN'T afford a pet, you should get one anyway and hope an organization will help pay so you will be responsible??? There's something wrong with that way of thinking, don't you agree?
