Been stuck at Spang-Quentin (Spangdahlem, Germany) forever now... We have been paroled! HAHA... we leave here this Wed and are heading to Holloman. You all know how it is when you PCS to a new base,... you want friends there waiting on you! :)... Its hard being the "new girl" and I know once "clicks" are made, its hard to let newbies in... but Im fun, honest, and I always go above and beyond for my family and friends...Sooo anyhooo.. Heres a lil about me... I'll be 37 in Jan *ugh*... My hubby and I have 4 kiddos between us, but they are all older, no lil ones...My hubby is FD and has been doing this for a loooong time, in Feb it will be 24yrs now... Im hoping that in a lil over 3 he will retire! LOL... I like to be involved in all the spouses programs, and if there isnt any, Im the type who will make one!... I'm also going through a mid life crisis or something, cuz Ive decided I wanted to start working out and eating healthy, so I'd love to have work out and walking buddies! :)... Anyway, most of you know what I'm going through... PCS'ing is hard, leaving old friends and making new... So if your alone, or you need one more for your already formed click, here I am!
We have 2 19yr old boys... 1 15yr old boy and a 22yr old girl... One of the 19yr olds and the 22yr old is going to college in CA... My 15yr old refused to come to Germany so he moved in with his dad so he could stay in the states... and my other 19yr old is a Mamma's boy who refuses to cut the string..lol
One of our 19yr old sons will be. Not sure about Cody (15yr old)... He will be a sophmore this yr and now hes struggling with leaving the HS he's already started and his friends... Hes on the basketball team, and I tried to explain to him that they have basketball in NM too, but he's just at "that" age.. lol
Hi Shell!!!! It's nice to meet you! My name is Leah, I'm 19 years old and married for 3 years now. No kiddos, just lots of animals LOL. I'm all about finding new people to talk and socialize with, I moved here in March and this was my first experience PCS'ing, so I didn't really know what to expect. I also sell Creative Memories, but that's a different story.
One thing that might interest you, there's a FB group for Holloman AFB Wives, seems pretty nice :D
Oh Oh Oh and another thing, a bunch of ladies from the community are coming on December 6th to the Zia Transportation Center (it's a building in town) where a bunch of us consultants are gathering to help out with the Christmas Buying. It would be a good way to see what's up around town, meet new people, and have an overall good time :D
Think I'm talking to you on FB! LOL.. I'm the one that made the Wives FB group...When we found out we were going to Holloman, first place I went to was FB, was shocked to see there was nothing for the wives!... Not used to that... Any base Ive been to we have tons of diff wives groups.
Oh!!! Well awesome! I'm glad you made it because we really needed it! Like I said I didn't really know what I was doing when it came to meeting new people, I mean I grew up with all the people I knew back home, so I wasn't used to putting myself out there to meet people. So the group is helping :D
HELLO I am vanessa I have been here for 5 years in Feb. I have two boys, one is almost 3 and one 4. hope you enjoy it here.
HAHA good to know you started the group I invited everyone on there i could think of stationed here. lol
My name is Paige and I'm an alcoholic. LOL. Not really though! =]
21 years old, married 3 1/2 years- no kids, but my doggies ARE my kids!! In fact, I dressed them up and took them trick or treating.
Good luck with the move and getting settled!! =] In fact, if you need any help, I am sure a bunch of us would be willing to help out!
Thanks for starting the group- I am part of it.... although I haven't been to the page or anything yet!
Welcome to Holloman!
Morgan, does the fire dept have a wives group?
Paige, I would soooo love help! lol... I have 11 thousand pounds of stuff heading that way! haha!... I watched the movers pack and I just cringed, they were just tossing things in every which box and not keeping anything together... Told my hubby I was gonna be a wreck when it made it to NM and I started going through stuff!
I keep meaning to have Jeff ask the Chief when he has him on the phone, but never remember until they hang up.. lol...OK, well, guess that will be my project when I get there...We have to have a group for us FD wives... It really helps to have one esp when one of ours gets deployed, and we need to raise money for our guys! Is your hubby on 24's?
I appreciate it sooooo much!... We are leaving here (Germany) dark thirty thurs morning...Flying to Columbus, OH and taking about a week of leave to visit with the family and get our vehicles then driving out to NM... I have a couple of houses that we are going to look at as soon as we get there, so shouldnt take me long to get a house... Hopefully it doesnt take to long to get our stuff!
Morgan- 24's arent to bad... Jeff has worked them here... I like them cuz it allows me to have "me" time LOL...Only time they really suck is when you want to do something or the holidays... Not sure what Jeff is going to be doing at Holloman, think its still kind of up in the air...What does your do? How long has he been in?...Mine has been doing this waaay to long.. lol
He worked 24s at our old base and then when we got here he worked 48s/72s and then got hurt and went to 12s. He has only been in 3 yrs. He will start working the floor hopefully Weds. I loved the 48/72s. The only thing I don't like about 24s is that his days off you can't stay up late unless it's his kelly day.
Oh wow, If there is ANY chance you can get outta coming to Spang, I suggest you do it!!...It is TERRIBLE here!... Germany itself, I could tolerate, even tho it rains constantly and I do mean constantly!.. Its always rainy and cold here....They dont even average a 100 days of sunshine here!...But like I said, the weather is nothing compared to the base itself!...This is NOT a family oriented base at all... Management in all the units needs a serious overhaul, its just down right pathetic...Get used to shopping online, cuz there is nothing here... The BX and commissary is tiny and the clothes that they do get, well, I dont even know where they got them at! lol...The euro exchange rate is so terrible, you cant afford to shop off base, not that there is that many places to choose for that!... Ramstein AB is a couple of hrs away, they have a bigger BX, but your choices are limited there too... I was really upset with Ramstein, they supposedly built this "new mall", we went down a couple of weeks ago and it was a wasted trip... Medical sucks here and dependants are always stuck going to a German Dr... I had to have surgery over here, and the German Dr and hosp will prob be giving me nitemares for the rest of my life!...Spang is kind of out in the middle of nowhere, pretty secluded, so there is always a drive if you want to go do anything, and the German drivers think every lil street and back road is the autobahn... We have done a lot of yrs overseas, Japan, England, but this has been the worst assignment EVER!!...This has been the longest 4yrs of my life, not to mention the most miserable!... I wish this place upon noone!!... We are in billiting now, 4 days til we are outta here, and I'm on pins and needles waiting to get out of here! lol... The biggest advice I can give you for here is, start studying for the drivers test now... You'll have to take the German written test, study the road signs!... I would live off base, this base is ALWAYS on a curfew, cuz these young Airman cant behave over here... Stay away from GLH in Binsfeld...And get any medical stuff done now to avoid having to go off base! lol...We'll have to def stay in touch so I can fill you in more later! lol
Sometimes overseas bases aren't for everyone. I have actually heard different. Some people absolutely loved going to Spang. My friend Monica is heading there in March, she is at Luke right now.
Another friend was in Germany and just left over the summer and she loved it. She took advantage of all the trips that were thru the ITT on base. We can't wait to go overseas, especially Germany.
As I said, Germany itself isnt to bad, if you can tolerate the weather...The base however, diff story... We have ran into ppl over here that were here before and cant believe how down hill its gone... I know its gotten worse gradually since we first got here... Ive loved being at other overseas bases, just not this one!... As for travel, my husband has been doing this for 24yrs, Im just traveled out... We have done some since being here, but its just gotten to the point where you have seen one thing, you have seen it all... I do suggest going to Rome tho, it was pretty amazing.
I agree with Shell about Rome. We were stationed outside of Pisa for 3 years and it was awesome. We saw so much famous stuff. We actually drove by the Leaning Tower of Pisa (Torre di Pendente) every day going to base. If you can get overseas, I say do it. You can get such cheap flights to go anywhere in Europe.
