Availability depends a lot on whether they have to ship the cherries in or whether the local crops are good. If I'm not mistaken, the cherries have had to be shipped in for the last couple of years just for the cherry festival (High Rolls farmers can elaborate here if we have any on this forum).
I haven't heard about this year's crop and what the prediction is for it, but having nearly 3 months until the festival any number of things can happen weather-wise. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed for the best weather there can be for them.
My first year here in 06 the crop was amazing. I didn't make it to the festival but I went and picked them myself. They were huge and so sweet and juicy, and you can eat as many as you want while picking. Plus the prices were very reasonable and it is just a plain fun outing whether you're by yourself or with a group. I keep hoping that we'll get another crop like that one, as I'm sure the orchard owners do as well. So here's hoping.....
And I got a newsletter from the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce that said they had gotten word that the crop is good this year, just a little late, but there would be plenty of local cherries for the festival.
