I recently babysat for a woman named Tiffany Cox and she tried to stiff me out of payment. It started off well and good because we created a payment schedule of the 1st and 15th, but then the excuses started to roll in. To sum it up, after several ignored phone calls, e-mails, and texts, I saw her working at the gym and confronted her about payment and she scolded me for talking to her at work and walked away. I took it up with her supervisor and she came by my house a few hours later and paid me half of what she owed me. When I questioned her about the rest, she told me that was all that I was going to get and threatened my ability to enter the gym, so I called security forces to double check if she could do that... they told me to call her first shirt and that is just what I did. I'm not sure of how this will play out, but a pattern has been established and I thought I'd warn you other babysitters because I know she will have to get someone to care for her children.

P.S. I actually spoke to my neighbor and she encountered Ms. Cox as well. In her experience she sold Ms. Cox some items off of HYS.com and Ms. Cox gave her a rolled up amount of money that was significantly short and just zoomed away.

Please let us know how things turn out. It sounds like she needs someone to stand up to her and let her know she can't get away with this. (It does sound like she thinks she can and that's why she has done it).

Everyone is having hard times these days but that's no excuse for her not paying the person who takes care of her children, and I'm sure you don't make a whole heck of a lot babysitting and you're not doing it just for the fun of it but are trying to contribute to your household income, so it's doubly bad for you that she stiffed you.

I would suggest you also get a written statement from your neighbor to add to any paperwork you have yourself just in case you have to take this to the group commander. The more fire power you have the better. Good Luck!

Im sorry this happened to you, I used to do daycare and had a coupe of parents like this.

Be careful about using her name,,,,,,,,,,,she can get you for slander.

Did you have a written contract? (I didnt read all the posts, so I dont know if you said you did or not) 

If this woman is active duty, you could get her in major trouble.....she's not setting a very good example as an active duty military member if she isn't paying people money that she owes them.

Also, she is burning her bridges, because before long, she won't be able to find anyone to babysit her children! 

A verbal contract is binding in the state of New Mexico, but of course as we all know any type of paperwork to back up the contract is always helpful. 

Thanks for your well wishes. She actually called me and said that my husband could get into trouble because of me posting her name or something and that she would be contacting the commander. Just to be safe I informed my husband's shirt and personally took a trip to security forces so they are completely apprised of the situation and have the contact information of my neighbor whom she also screwed. They completely backed me up and she could end up getting in even more trouble for filing frivilous things if she actually goes through with it. Me informing other babysitters about my personal interaction with her and a friend who disclosed the information is protected under my 1st amendment right... plus, slander is only considered slander when the allegations are false and unfortunately mine are ALL TRUE. 

By the way, I typically charge $20 per 4-5 hour period regardless of how many children you have. For her, I negotiated down to $15 per time for her two children. She asked for more time and became over due for four visits($60)and was supposed to pay on the 15. She didn't return any calls or texts... yada yada yada... spoke to her supervisor and got paid half with a threat to be kicked out of the gym... spoke to her actual shirt and have yet to hear anything else aside from her threating to get my husband demoted (from last post). After personally speaking with my hubby's shirt and security forces I am confident that they will help me resolve this soon. 

Wow Martha......you are a trooper!!! I can't believe you are going through all of this.......your babysitting prices are more than fair. It is hard to believe that an active duty military member would treat someone like this. Makes me very sad! 

She will learn as this is a small town. Good going, Martha! Too many people don't make the effort and don't stand up for themselves. It may be hard and an inconvenience, but my attitide is if I saved one person from going through what i just did, then it is worth it!

UPDATE: To this day Tiffany Cox has only paid me half of what she owes me, but at least her supervisors know the crappy caliber of person she is. She also tried to get me into trouble by reporting me to the FCC thing in housing because I was not certified. Ironically, after discussing it with the coordinator person, I will actually be getting FCC certified in the next couple of weeks. (Maybe I should send her a thank you note for being such a "witch with a b". Karma is real people!)

I will not change my pricing though because I think some of the other women are WAY OVERPRICING.

Anyway, when everything becomes official I will be sure to advertise my childcare, until then I can not watch anyone for more than 10 hours in any given week in my home. :O( However, if you fall into that catergory feel free to PM me. :O) Thank you.
