Not to be negative, because this is a wonderful event, but we have gone for two years in a row, and Soaring Heights employees always seem to be winning the "big prizes". Slightly discouraging for the residents! Great event for kids that don't care about the big prizes though!

Hi Christy,

Last year there was a vendor who did win one of the big prizes and residents were upset, rightfully so. This year, even though we are inviting all card holders and lots of vendors out to the event, only residents will be allowed to enter into the drawings.

We're hoping more donations will come down as prizes for residents. Look for a Playstation, XBox, video camera, GPS system, even a laptop computer. These are all potential prizes. I hope to see you there and be sure to invite your friends and neighbors!

We should be there..........thanks for addressing the concern. Look forward to the event!

Claudia --- 14 years ago -

I never win anything lol .. I will still be there :)

Cathy --- 14 years ago -

So, is this open to off-base military? I would love to get my car seats inspected and my kids fingerprinted.

Claudia --- 14 years ago -

Should be .. only the prizes are for residents.

Jess --- 14 years ago -

I will definitely be there. I know our daughter is old enough to get finger printed but our son's a baby. Can I still get him finger printed too?

Jess --- 14 years ago -

Oh, and how do we enter the drawings and what time will they announce the winners??

Christy --- 14 years ago -

In the past........they just give you a ticket stub when you show up and then they draw tickets throughout the night for the prizes. You have to be there to win the prize though.

And I have NEVER been asked if I'm a resident or not, they have always just given out tickets, so I think even if you lived downtown, you could still get tickets for the prizes......that was the beef before, it wasn't just the residents getting tickets and prizes, they were giving out tickets to everyone that showed up!

Christy --- 14 years ago -

Oh, and I'm pretty sure they can fingerprint your son Jess.......he should be old enough to be fingerprinted I would think.

Actually last year my husband and I won both "Big Prizes" and a friend's son won the other "Big Prize". We won a $500 gift card for walmart and a JVC camcorder and their son won a BBQ grill.

Neither myself, husband or friends son work for Soaring Heights. It's a drawing they cant see the numbers on who they are picking.

Jess --- 14 years ago -

Thanks Christy! I hope everything goes smoothly at it this year. We've been here forever (it seems like) and this is the 1st time I've ever heard of this night out thing. =)

Christy --- 14 years ago -

They may not be able to see the numbers on who they are picking, but they can control who gets a ticket and who gets entered to win the big prizes. I'm just saying that Soaring Heights employees and the people who are serving the food should not be able to win the prizes. If it is an event for the residents, then it should only be residents who are entered to win prizes!

I recently deleted my HU account, but I just HAD to chime in on this topic. My friends and I were standing by the tables when SH employees were doing the drawings. My issue with the raffle was that the women pulling the numbers put the winning tickets back into the "pot", and therefore people were given more than one opportunity to win the big prizes. There were TWO people that one TWO big prizes almost one after the other. I'm sure that our BAH fund these events, and I take every advantage to attend them for that very reason. But those drawings last year were completely unfair, and I'm not the only one that thought so. I hope that doesn't happen again this year :)

AFWife123 --- 14 years ago -

JestCuz, that was probably me. My husband didn't want to go up there so I went with his ticket.

I do agree they shouldn't put the tickets back in the pot once the numbers have been called.

Here is an update on the event:

The police department will not be checking carseats because it takes abotu 45 minutes per car. However, you may be able to ask one of them to have a quick look at yours if you're interested.

There will be a Tae Kwon Do demonstration.

Prizes include a Wii, XBox, 40" Flatscreen TV, and more

So Im not sure if this question has been answered, but is it open to off base military as well?

Isabel --- 14 years ago -

Sorry I re read some of the posts!

megan --- 14 years ago -

It is open to off base military, they can get freebies from the vendors and food, and participate in the activities but just can't win the prizes. Just one more reason to move on base!

More prizes: GPS, iPod Touch, and digital camera.
