Anyone know any more info about this? I've been reading that since the govt. might be shutting down that military members might not be getting paid. Anyone know any more information about this?

Government shut down

What I read on the Air Force Times website that the military will be paid on the 15th,but the will only be paid for April 1st-8th.

Trina --- 14 years ago -

You will eventually get all of your pay, it will be late,,,,,,,,like last time in 95. Pay was late.

The politicians who didn't get the budget passed should be fired or not paid for the days they go over. It's an atrocity!

"Non-essential" personnel may NOT be paid for time lost.

As tomorrow night’s deadline for avoiding a government shutdown nears, about 800,000 “non- essential” federal workers face the prospect of getting no pay at all for time lost to the political impasse.

Elected officials, including House Speaker John Boehner and other members of Congress and President Barack Obama, all would be paid as usual during a shutdown, unless Congress changes the law. Soldiers, law enforcement officers and other government employees whose jobs are deemed essential would continue to work yet wouldn’t get paychecks until the budget standoff is resolved.

Workers who are furloughed as non-essential, however, aren’t guaranteed that they’ll be paid at all for time off when the government closes for business. While they’ve ultimately received back pay after previous shutdowns, it’s up to Congress to “determine whether ‘non-excepted’ employees receive pay for the furlough period,” according to a U.S. Office of Personnel Management website providing guidance and information on furloughs.

Boehner Paid as Soldiers Wait if Congress Shuts Down Government

Everyone .... a SEPARATE bill has been submitted to ensure that the Military WILL be paid through the end of the fiscal year if in fact there is a Government shutdowwn. However, Obama has said he will VETO it and that it is a distraction. So, please remember in 2012, that Obama said ensuring that you (the Military) will be paid, is a distraction to him!

From what I've read and understand, we will get paid on the 15th, but yes, only one weeks pay ... and we will get paid once this is all said and done and we will get what we are owed ... however, in my opinion, I think a lot of people are panicking or are ticked off that so many of us, including myself, won't make it until this blows over. I know one weeks pay won't pay my car note and won't pay our other bills. Even if they give us what we are owed, you think the bank is gonna care about it ... they want their money and they want it when its due. Government shutdown or not. One weeks pay goes a long way for us ... we're on a tight budget and one weeks pay won't cut it. We don't have any extras at home ... no cable tv, no internet, no extra anything other than a phone. We even walk to where we need to go and avoid eating out, or going into town unless we absolutely need to, and Im sure we aren't the only family in that situation. There may be others in the same or in a worse position that we are. This is gonna hurt many many military members ... even it's only a week or two.

Military members will continue get paid through April 8th, but after that are only earning and will get money when the government is funded again. Civilian members will be under same consideration about who stays and their pay situation will be largely the same. They expect a significant number of civilians to be furloughed.

Administration Paints Picture of Possible Government Shutdown

Jan --- 14 years ago -

Yes, my husband is Civil Service, got an email today about the possible shutdown and we expect he will be furloughed. We are more than willing to make the sacrifice so that something can be done to stop this out of control spending this Administration is doing. However, we feel terrible for all of our military families .... especially because they must remain on duty, without pay.

I agree with Jan. I also appreciate what she said. The truth is that we cannot compromise on this budget. We cannot pass a budget that doesn't include significant cuts. The Obama administration does not care about ANYONE! I have many military friends and am unsure if my hubby will even get paid, but we have to stop this now. People need to stop being complacent & start calling, faxing, e-mailing & writing letters to those in the House & Senate & tell them ENOUGH is ENOUGH! I am personally not voting for any of the idiots that are trying to push this horrible budget through. Educate yourself-get FloydBrownReports.com.
