anyone been there or have any pointers?? 

We have been stationed there twice, and just recently moved here from there. I can give you lots of information. What kinds of things do you want to know? And yes, it is expensive, but really not much more than here, other than housing prices. However, if you are PCSing there, you will receive COLA, and your BAH is a lot higher. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. I can tell you about housing, schools, activities there, what the base has to offer, weather, the environment, etc... If you are PCSing there, I think that you will really enjoy your time at Elmendorf. Again, anything you want to know, please feel free to ask. 

I lived in Anchorage my whole life which is the city Elmendorf is in. If you need to know anything feel free to ask. My husband was stationed there when I met him and I have several friends who still live there.
